Multi-scale analysis of cohesive interfaces

چکیده
Develop a technique for the multi-scale modeling of cohesive interfaces to (1) obtain a better understanding of the micro-scale processes occurring during delamination and (2) use this knowledge to develop and quantify predictive models at the application scale. Methods The multi-scale scheme is shown in figure 3. At the macro-scale the cohesive zone (CZ) element formulation of Van den Bosch is used [1]. However, instead of assuming the traction-opening relation a priori, it is determined from the underlying micro-structural model. In the micro-model the processes leading to dissipation can be taken into account explicitly. The overall work of separation obtained from the micro-model incorporates the deadhesion energy at the interface and the mechanically induced dissipation near the interface (e.g. by fibrillation).

A boundary element method for the analysis of CNT/polymer composites with a cohesive interface model based on molecular dynamics
In this paper, a new cohesive interface model is applied to characterize carbon nanotube (CNT) composites using the boundary element method (BEM). In the previous BEM models of CNT composites, a rigid-inclusion model was employed to represent the CNTs in a polymer matrix due to their extremely high stiffness as compared with the polymer. Perfect bonding interface conditions between the CNT fibe...
متن کاملMixed-mode Cohesive-zone Models for Delamination and Deflection in Composites
Cohesive-zone models for interfaces incorporate both strength and energy parameters. Therefore, they provide a natural bridge between strength-based models and energy-based models for fracture, allowing delamination to be described by a single framework that covers a range of applications for which the strength or energy criteria alone might not be sufficient. In this paper, the relationships b...

A multi-scale cohesive numerical framework is proposed to simulate the failure of heterogeneous adhesively bonded systems. This multi-scale scheme is based on Hill’s variational principle of energy equivalence between the higher and lower level scales. It provides an easy way to obtain accurate homogenized macroscopic properties while capturing the physics of failure processes at the micro-scal...

A few of the presented soil behavior models are capable of predicting the triggering and post liquefaction and also shear band mechanism through the soil media. The assessment of earth-dam body behavior as a soil structure made of cohesive soil in core and non-cohesive soil as the core supports, including water interaction at upstream through earthquake upon a multi-line constitutive equations ...
متن کاملA Multi-Scale Numerical Method for the Study of Size-Scale Effects in Ductile Fracture
The use of a stress-strain constitutive relation for the undamaged material and a traction-separation cohesive crack model with softening for cracking has been demonstrated to be an effective strategy to predict and explain the size-scale effects on the mechanical response of quasi-brittle materials. In metals, where ductile fracture takes place, the situation is more complex due to the interpl...
